THE PRESIDIUM OF THE LITHUANIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES - The Presidium of the Academy of Sciences shall consist of a President, Vice Presidents, a Secretary General of the Academy of Sciences, chairpersons of the Scientific Divisions and other members of the Presidium. The General Assembly of the Academy of Sciences shall establish the number of the members of the Presidium. - A President and Vice Presidents shall be elected from full members of the Academy of Sciences. The Secretary General, chairpersons of the Scientific Divisions and other members of the Presidium shall be elected from full members or corresponding members. The President and Vice Presidents shall have no right to either fill any other position in the State institutions or organisations or engage in business, commerce or work at other private institutions or enterprises. The President and Vice President shall have no right to receive any other remuneration, with the exception of that for their scientific, educational or creative activities. - The same person to the post of a President of the Academy of Sciences, its Vice Presidents, the Secretary General, or a chairperson of the Division can be elected no longer than for two terms of office. - Members of the Academy of Sciences shall nominate and elect a President, Vice Presidents, a Secretary General and other members of the Presidium at the General Assembly of the Academy. The chairperson of a Scientific Division shall be elected by the members belonging to that Division and shall be approved by the General Assembly of the Academy of Sciences. Everyone shall be elected (approved) by secret ballot. Persons who have received more than half the votes of the registered voters shall be considered to be elected (approved). - After all the members of the Presidium have been elected (approved), the structure of the Presidium shall be approved, by a resolution of the General Assembly, for a four-year term of office. - The General Assembly of the members of the Academy of Sciences shall have the right to dismiss a member of the Presidium from his office ahead of time. The decision to dismiss a member ahead of time shall be made by secret ballot. For the decision to be valid, more than half the registered members of the Academy of Sciences must vote. A new member of the Presidium shall be elected in the place of the dismissed or the resigned member, according to the Charter, and for the period left till the next elections of the Presidium of the Academy. |
