The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences has implemented three projects funded by the Structural Funds of the European Union.
I. Development and Implementation of the National System of Science Popularization, 2016–2023.
The project is being implemented in partnership with VšĮ (public enterprise) Vilnius International Film Festival ‘Kino Pavasaris’, VšĮ ‘Science and Innovations for Society’. The Baltic Institute of Advanced Technologies, Klaipėda University, Vytautas Magnus University, Vilnius University, and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University were the partners in 2016–2019.
The budget of the project is EUR 2 507 526,21.The project aims at expanding a system of science popularization by developing traditions in this field and designing new means and ways of bringing science closer to society.
The implementation of this project involves measures that have already proven their worth and brand new activities in science popularization. These will include spreading information on the most recent scientific research, achievements in various branches of science, their significance and practical application. The project also places emphasis on the career in scientific research, as well as on the strengthening of interaction between research, business, and society, and on the nurturing of the abilities of research communication.
The project is aimed at teachers, schoolchildren, students, scientists, researchers, and everybody with an interest in science and a desire to better know and understand it.
II. Publication and Coordination of Scientific Periodicals, 2016–2022.
The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences is implementing this project in partnership with Klaipėda University, Kaunas University of Technology, Mykolas Romeris University, Vilnius University, Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas University of Technology, Klaipėda University, the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences, Vytautas Magnus University, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, the Nature Research Centre, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, the Lithuanian Catholic Academy of Science, Šiauliai University, and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.
The budget of the project is EUR 2 190 427,99.The aim of the project is publication and diffusion of the results of research and experimental development in Lithuania and beyond its borders by publishing scientific periodicals in order to enhance the competences of scientists and researchers.
The implementation of the project involved publishing of 47 Lithuanian science periodicals of top scienctific level and significance in 2016–2022. Now it involves publishing of 22 Lithuanian science periodicals.
The project is intended for scientists and researchers, including the members of the editorial boards and reviewers of scientific periodicals, as well as for university lecturers and students.
III. Strengthening Competencies of Researchers in Preparing Projects Applications, 2018–2021.
The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences is implementing this project as a partner of the Research Council of Lithuania.
The budget of the project is EUR 1 447 806,85.
The budget of actions of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences is EUR 221 219,00.
The aim of the project is strengthening competencies of young scientists and researchers on the ability to prepare applications and develop projects successfully. The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences organizes two-part training for participants of five competitions for prizes and scholarships:
- Young scientists’ and doctoral students’ research competition;
- Competition of university students’ research;
- Competition for the Young Scientist Scholarship;
- Competition for the World Federation of Scientists fellowship;
- Competition organized by European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
