On 26 August, Prof. Dr hab. Zenonas Dabkevičius, Vice-President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, celebrated his 70th birthday.

Prof. Zenonas Dabkevičius is a talented, hard-working, and productive scientist and a skilful research organiser.
He focuses his research on fungal diseases of grasses, mycotoxin-accumulating micro-organisms and their spread in plants and crop production, develops integrated plant protection measures, and organises the collection, evaluation, and conservation of plant genetic resources in Lithuania.
He has presented the key results of his research at more than a hundred of international and national conferences; he has published over 250 research and science popularisation articles.
Prof. Dabkevičius has co-authored twelve books and textbooks. He has held fellowships in Belarus, Georgia, Russia, Denmark, the USA, the United Kingdom, and Sweden and participated in over ten national and international research projects. He has supervised 14 doctoral students.
He is the chair of the Council of the Permanent Commission on National Genetic Resources of Plants under the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania, also a member and chair of the Council of Agricultural Sciences under the Ministry of Agriculture. He was a long-standing chair of the editorial board of the international research journal Zemdirbystė-Agriculture.
In 2008, Zenonas Dabkevičius and his co-authors were awarded the Lithuanian Science Prize.
Prof. Zenonas Dabkevičius is a recipient of various awards and state decorations: he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order ‘For Merit to Lithuania’ (2004), the Badge of Honour of the Ministry of Agriculture (2014), the Order of Science and Business Institutions ‘For Merit to the Lithuanian Countryside’ (2016), and the Commemorative Medal of the Academy of Sciences (2022). He is a laureate of the competition ‘Kaimo spindulys’ (Luminary of the Countryside) organised by the Ministry of Agriculture (2007). He was elected to the top ten list of agronomists who contributed most significantly to Lithuania over the last century (2017), while the Lithuanian Agronomists' Union awarded him the title of the Agronomist of Merit to Lithuania (2017).
Prof. Dabkevičius was elected an expert member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in 2001 and a full member in 2011. From 2013 to 2022, he chaired the Division of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences. In 2018, he was elected vice-president of the academy, and 2022 he is also the vice-chair of the Division of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences and a member of the bureau.
He was elected a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry in 2012 and of the Latvian Academy of Sciences in 2016.
