3rd Ad-hoc-Statement “Coronavirus Pandemic – Sustainable Ways to Overcome the Crisis”
Dear colleagues,
Since the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 pandemic, the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina has been providing scientific advice to the German Federal Government, other decision-makers and the wider public in Germany.
Leading scientists from different fields have elaborated 3 ad-hoc-statements so far:
• 21 March 2020: “Coronavirus Pandemic in Germany: Challenges and Options for Intervention”;
• 3 April 2020: “Coronavirus Pandemic – Measures Relevant to Health”;
• 13 April 2020: “Coronavirus Pandemic – Sustainable Ways to Overcome the Crisis”.
Please find attached the latest 3rd ad-hoc-statement.
This statement contains recommendations on the following issues: optimisation of data collection, differentiated risk-assessment, psychological and social impact, legal and constitutional aspects, gradual normalisation of public life and re-opening of schools, economic and financial policy and sustainability. The epidemiological, hygienic and medical recommendations from the previous two statements remain in place.
The German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina will continue to accompany through scientific advice various aspects of the pandemic. www.leopoldina.org/en/coronavirus.
This pandemic has made clear that scientific expertise is of critical importance. In addition, international (scientific) cooperation remains crucial, both in the immediate pandemic mitigation and in dealing with its consequences for society, economy, politics and the environment.
Sincerely,
